Mr Tim McCarthy
Chief Executive Officer
Tim has worked in education for nearly 30 years, mainly in England but also in recent years in the UAE and India for Mosaica Education, Inc. (US) before taking up his post as CEO for AAT in July 2012. Tim puts his passion for education down to two factors: a loving and supportive home and a school (Xaverian College Manchester) that recognized his learning needs and subsequently stretched him academically. This led to Tim being accelerated through school and in 1980 at the age of 19 becoming the, then, youngest-ever graduate from the Physics faculty at Manchester University.
Having begun his teaching career, he soon showed an ability to both inspire young people and his peers. He progressed up the career ladder to become head of an Academy which, by the time he moved on in 2010, had become one of the most the most improved school in the North West of England and also the 4th most improved academy in the country.
Having worked as a Principal in a Local Authority school, an academy and internationally, Tim has a rare blend of experience and skills which are so important in this ever-changing education landscape. He is able to quickly build relationships and trust while always remaining focused on student outcomes.
Tim is married with three children. He is a keen sports fan and is a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder at Manchester United. In his free time he plays pool and golf to relax and enjoys watching all sports.
Following Heron Park’s Ofsted inspection in May 2014 the inspectors reported that “The passion and enthusiasm for improving the education of pupils from the hands-on Chief Executive Officer of the trust is evident, and sets the tone and expectation that is beginning to raise standards”.
