At TGS, Primary Science is taught as a discrete subject with weekly whole-class lessons. Children are taught in mixed-attainment classes of their peers within their year group, in a talk-rich environment which an understanding of both disciplinary and subsidiary knowledge. We promote practical investigations as a means of understanding of science in context and to support retention of information and the development of science skills.
At TGS, we place an equal emphasis on teaching how to plan and carry out an investigation and the understanding of key scientific knowledge. As such we use the AAT science curriculum which outlines the knowledge and skills end points for each topic and year group.
The Science progression document ensures that knowledge and skills are developed throughout each year group, across a key stage and in tandem with other foundation subjects, making suitable and effective links, as applicable.
